Do you find yourself yawning a lot, feeling lethargic or generally fatigued? Well, life can be tiring, and with a cray-cray schedule, it’s completely normal to feel a dip in energy. We all have off days. Hell, sometimes we even have off weeks!
But you don’t have to take it lying down. Luckily for you, we’ve compiled a list of some helpful practices to put the spring back in your step!
Nourish Your Body
Ever heard the phrase, “You are what you eat?” In this case, I’m a chickpea salad! But seriously, what you fuel your body with has a huge impact on how you feel.
If you’ve been feeling extra sluggish recently, the first thing you could look at is your diet. Certain foods are known energy zappers. Culprits include processed foods, like cheeseburgers, candy and pre-cooked meats. Not to mention, sugary drinks, which award you a temporary energy rush followed by a horrible comedown.
The good news is, there are plenty of yummy nutritional foods that’ll have you flying high, including fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. Try introducing these natural foods into your daily diet and you’ll soon notice an increased pep in your step.
Pro tip: If you’re prone to sugar cravings or you’re a snacker, try adding energy-packed foods, such as nuts and berries to your diet. These foods release energy much more slowly, giving you the best chance of feeling in tip-top shape!
Get Sweaty
Accustomed to doing literally nothing all day? My hand’s raised! If you’re anything like me, you probably wonder why you’re still glued to your sofa way past 8pm.
Studies have shown that the less mobile we are, the less energetic we feel. But there’s light at the end of the tunnel. All you have to do is move! Exercise boosts your oxygen levels, therefore awakening your body and mind.
Using fitness apps like Gymondo will keep your energy levels high. Choose from a huge selection of workouts categorized by style, duration, level and goal. Best of all, you can easily fit them into your busy schedule, with over 500 workouts under 20 minutes.
Top tip: Next time you’re feeling lethargic, move your body! Go for a brisk walk, do some sit-ups or practice Pilates. You’ll feel an energy boost straight away!
Fill up That Flask
Water is the elixir of life. Drinking it promotes healthy organ function, alertness and quality of skin.
And if you’re feeling tired, it might be because you’re dehydrated without even knowing it. Avoid dehydration by drinking at least 2 liters of water each day. It sounds simple, but it’s super easy to forget to drink up.
If you’re struggling to stick with it, set reminders on your phone, take regular water breaks and above all, fill up that flask. Your mind and body will thank you for it.
Pro tip: Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning. It will kick-off a healthy practice that will quickly become a regular habit, just like brushing your teeth!

Cut Out Caffeine
Some people spring out of bed in the morning, ready to face the day with gusto. Others need a bit of encouragement, and by that, I mean, coffee! Nobody blames you for succumbing to the rich flavor profile and temporary energy-giving properties of your favorite brew.
You knew there would be a “but” here and here it is—too much caffeine causes an energy spike, and unfortunately, what goes up must come down. Not to mention, increased anxiety, constipation and dehydration. So, next time you’re feeling an afternoon yawn creeping up, think twice before reaching for the cup of joe.
Pro tip: Swap out your morning coffee for a 10-minute yoga class.
Show Yourself Some Love
Feeling low in energy? Maybe it’s time for my personal favorite pastime— self-care. A term often reserved for preachy beauty bloggers, the mainstream have now embraced it, as should you! It means listening to your body and doing things that bring you joy, help recharge your batteries and make you smile from the inside-out.
Binge-watching reality trash, soaking in the tub with a face mask on or reading a soppy romance novel—whatever your jam, self-care is personal and can therefore be whatever you want it to be.
Pro tip: Dedicate one evening a week to self-care. Ensure that you always have some “me time” carved out in your schedule no matter what other stuff is going on in your life.
