Should I Exercise While Pregnant? Tips From Sav LaBrant & Trainer

Pregnancy should not be viewed as an excuse not to exercise. Just ask famous YouTube vlogger, Savannah LaBrant, who with the help of her husband, Cole, and trainer, Katie, created the Gymondo fitness program, LaBrant Fit. “We designed LaBrant Fit with beginners [and expecting mamas] in mind. There are easy modifications for beginners and harder variations for the more advanced.” Follow these helpful tips from one expecting mama’s personal trainer to look and feel your best during your pregnancy.

Sav LaBrant’s Trainer: Katie Yovin

Born and raised in Orange County, California, Katie’s biggest passion is to encourage and support others in their fitness journey. As a former athlete and certified personal trainer, Katie is extremely motivated to push herself to her limits and improve the way she looks and feels every day. She brings the same approach to the people lucky enough to train with her. Here is Katie’s advice on exercising during your pregnancy.

Is it safe to exercise when you’re pregnant?

“Before you start working out, I recommend speaking with your doctor to ensure it’s safe for both you and your baby. If you were working out before you became pregnant, which Savannah had been doing, it’s totally safe for you and your baby to continue exercising.”

What workouts would you recommend?

“Bodyweight programs like LaBrant Fit are totally safe to do during your first trimester. After the first trimester, I wouldn’t recommend doing any exercises where you’re laying on your back or stomach or moving side to side (twisting your torso). I also recommend keeping the intensity low.”

What are the benefits of prenatal workout?

“First off, you’ll sleep better, which is a big plus since you get more and more uncomfortable throughout your pregnancy. Secondly, you’ll experience less complicated labor. Working out will also increase your endorphin levels and helps with lower back pain, which can increase during pregnancy. Additionally, working out decreases your risk of having a C-section.”

Any additional advice?

“Just make sure everything you’re doing is comfortable for you and your body. If you start feeling dizzy, I recommend stopping. And don’t forget to hydrate.”
