You breezed through your beginner-level workouts, blew past the intermediate category and now your hard work has paid off—you’re ready for advanced-level workouts. Are you up for the challenge?

Before diving headfirst into high-intensity exercises, shorter rest intervals, longer durations, faster speeds and more explosive movement with Gymondo, let’s explore what it looks like to level up. If you’re still not sure, take our fitness test to see if you’ve got what it takes.

Advanced-Level Fitness: Hard

If you’re an advanced-level exerciser, you’re accustomed to training 5 or more times per week and have been working out for many years. At this point, you’re very familiar with your body and have mastered proper technique and form. Additionally, you’ve succeeded in reaching the majority of the fitness goals you’ve set for yourself.

Now, it’s time to experiment with different training methods and modalities.

Understanding Your Fitness Level

Fueling Your Body

As you continue to increase the intensity of your workout routine, your nutritional requirements change along with it. You may find that you start feeling sluggish after extremely intense workouts. This is a clear indication that you need to increase your caloric intake to keep your body properly fueled pre- and post-workout.

Rest

When workout intensity increases, pay special attention to rest and recovery. As your body adjusts to increased demands, you’ll feel less fatigued as time goes on. But in the beginning, it’s important to listen to your body. You’ll need proper rest to ensure you stay injury-free and can complete each workout at your highest level. Schedule rest days into your weekly workout schedule and give your muscles the time they need to recover.

While you sleep, your body releases hormones to rebuild tissue damaged during exercise, resulting in increased muscle mass. You can make significant gains by getting proper rest, so reap the benefits of muscle growth while you’re asleep.

Good vs Bad Pain

Let’s face it—after an advanced-level workout, you’re going to be sore. Knowing the difference between good and bad pain is essential to remain injury-free and keep progressing through your workouts.

The old adage, “no pain, no gain,” was once a way to push through grueling workouts. Now, it’s nothing more than a good way to get hurt. Instead, listen to your body. When you feel pain or discomfort, stop exercising immediately.

Now What?

How did you do? If you successfully performed all four exercises and met the rep requirements for push-ups and sit-ups, it may be time to level up your training. Head to Gymondo and explore our advanced-level workout programs to find what moves you. Our motivational trainers will reserve a spot for you on the mat. See you there!
