7 Ways to Stay Fit on Vacation

Jetting off for the holidays? Here’s how to keep your fitness in check.

Sprinting down the terminal to barely make your flight shouldn’t be the ONLY time you work up a sweat during your holiday. But we get how hard it can be to stay motivated when you’re in vacay mode.

So, unless you’re spending your holidays with a personal trainer, implement these 7 simple tips to stay fit while vacationing.

#1: Go Fast and Hard Using Your Own Body Weight

You don’t need fancy equipment to get in a crazy-good workout. Wake up early, get in a killer bodyweight circuit and then spend the rest of your day enjoying the sites with the fam. The morning is the perfect time to go all-out. A  high-intensity workout in the a.m. will rev up your metabolism, making it easier to burn calories throughout the day.

Try out our bodyweight travel workout for optimal results.

#2: Scope Out the Fitness Scene

Does your hotel have a gym? Are there hiking trails near your Airbnb? Scope out the fitness scene and then plan out your workout routine depending on what’s available to you. If you’re used to group fitness classes back home, check out the schedule at one of the local gyms near your digs. During the summer months, gyms are pretty empty, so you won’t be hard-pressed to find something new and cheap.

#3: Pack the Right Gear

Workout clothes—check. Sunscreen—absolutely. Water bottle—no doubt. But what else will you need? Forego the dumbbells for obvious reasons—they’re freaking heavy! But there’s plenty of light equipment you can pack in your carry-on.

Consider packing a jump rope. After all, jumping rope burns more calories per minute than any other form of cardio. And if you’re really into strength training, tossing resistance bands in your bag won’t take up much room at all. That’s about all you’ll need.

#4: Be Creative

Take this getaway as an opportunity to explore new and unique ways of exercising instead of doing the same old routine you’re accustomed to back home. Rent a bike or canoe, go for a hike, try surfing or play beach volleyball. Switching things up will be good for your mind and body. Plus, effective workouts aren’t limited to fancy gym equipment, treadmills or weights. This is the perfect time to try something completely different.

#5: Explore Your Surroundings

If you’re prone to hailing a cab to get from point A to point B, you might want to reconsider. Walking around a new city or town is always the best way to explore your surroundings.

Whether you’re wandering the streets of Rome or the coastal beauty of Croatia, walking will give you a much better perspective. It’s also a great way to stay fit and healthy.

So, even if you’re accustomed to a highly intense workout routine at home, walking can keep your fitness in check while on vacay.

#6: Bring Gymondo With You

There’s no need to spend hours working out while on vacation. Take Gymondo with you and explore 500+ workouts under 30 minutes. #7: Make It Fun

It’s important to remember that you’re on vacation. This means you shouldn’t feel guilty if you miss a workout. In fact, working out should be viewed as a reward, not an obligation. Use this time to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. Take your runs to the beach, do a pool workout and above all, have fun.

The bottom line: The more fun you have, the more likely you are to stick with it.

Vacations shouldn’t halt the progress you’ve made. With a bit of planning, you can enjoy working out on vacay in fun, new ways. Just download the Gymondo app and get started!
